Rose Hill School Year 6 French residential
On Friday 25 May, twenty-seven excited Year 6 children accompanied by: Mr Draper, Mr Long, Mr Hinchliffe, Mrs Makinson, Mrs Warran-Smith and Mrs Morgan arrived at school for a 07.15 departure to St Omer, France.
A Heavy sea-mist covered us as we undertook the crossing to Calais, but we were pleased to see a warm and welcoming sun emerge to greet us as we progressed inland. We then enjoyed a picnic outside the first of our scheduled visits: La Coupole (a Nazi V1 & V2 Rocket launching bunker buried deep into a hill near St Omer).
As always, the emphasis of the trip was on cultural exchange, language experience, history and social interaction. A special highlight, this year, was travelling into Belgium and visiting Flanders’ battle fields. Chocolate shopping and an evening meal dwindled into history as we arrived at the Menin Gate to witness an emotional Last Post Ceremony. Ella Rose and Will made us all very proud as, in full school uniform, they laid a wreath on behalf of Rose Hill.
The four-day trip was a great success and comprised a packed itinerary including: café visit, market, Passchendaele museum and trenches, Tyne Cot military cemetery, a day-trip to Bellewaerde theme park, chateau activities and a beach picnic

On Thursday, 9 November Year 7 went on an Art trip to the Towner Gallery in Eastbourne. After a bus journey to Eastbourne College we had a delicious lunch in their canteen. We then walked a short distance to the Towner Gallery which is located right next to the College. It wasn’t hard to miss as there was an amazing mural painted on the side of the building, in all sorts of shapes and colours, celebrating the Towner’s 10th Anniversary.
