Reception to Coolings Garden Centre

On Wednesday 11 March the Reception children went on a visit to the nature trail at Coolings Garden Centre in Knockholt. There was great excitement, even before we boarded the minibus in our salopettes, coats and wellies.

When we arrived we had a lovely surprise as Mrs Anderson was there. We all had fun squelching in the mud looking at the animals. We saw a pig, goats, ferrets, wallabies and lots of birds. We were lucky to be there when the owls were flying and we sat really still while we learnt all about the 3 different owls and watched them fly near us and over us. The lady brought out the last owl and said that this one was really scary.....she was only teasing us though as it was a tiny little owl with tufty ears and whiskers.

We saw amazing bug hotels made out of recycled materials and a bat box and we still had time to play in the little houses around the trail. At the end of our visit we all washed our hands really well and got back on the minibuses. When we got back to school we had our packed lunches in our classrooms and all agreed it had been a great morning. Our teachers said they were very proud of us.

Year 6 Geography trip to the River Cuckmere and Seven Sisters Country Park.

12 March 2020

Whilst the heavy rain did make the trip via Alfriston village a little tricky it also served to highlight the spectacular meanders and creeks of the River Cuckmere’s floodplain in the Spring sunshine and allow the ‘New Cut’ to be in full spate and speed along to the sea at low tide. As it did so the fast-flowing water actively undercut and eroded the shingle beach causing mini land or ‘shingle’ slides before our very eyes.
