"If a thing is worth having, it is worth waiting for"
Rose Hill School today celebrated the official opening of their new indoor pool with a visit from the Rt Hon Greg Clark. The sun shone and the pupils provided an excellent drum roll for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Charles Arthur, Chairman of Governors introduced the Guest of Honour and reminded the children that “if a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing well. If a thing is worth having, it is worth waiting for. Wise words from Oscar Wilde.
“We have been hoping for an indoor pool at the school for thirty years since my children attended. I am so pleased it is finally here and that you are lucky enough to enjoy such a facility”.
The new pool was finished at the beginning of term and weekly swimming lessons are part of the school curriculum and are available for all pupils from Kindergarten up to Year 8. The pool has been designed to ensure even the youngest members of the school are able to stand. The 12 month building project replaced the school’s old outdoor pool.

Whilst the heavy rain did make the trip via Alfriston village a little tricky it also served to highlight the spectacular meanders and creeks of the River Cuckmere’s floodplain in the Spring sunshine and allow the ‘New Cut’ to be in full spate and speed along to the sea at low tide. As it did so the fast-flowing water actively undercut and eroded the shingle beach causing mini land or ‘shingle’ slides before our very eyes.
